Co-developed by Gantri and colorFabb, Gantri Plant Polymers are the world's first plant-derived polylactic acid (PLA) blends engineered specifically for premium lighting products. Unlike traditional petroleum-based plastics, these innovative materials are safe, sustainable and most importantly - beautiful.

Sourced from nature

Gantri Plant Polymers are uniquely derived from sugar crops - corn, sugarcane and sugar beets. In addition, we only select raw crop suppliers that are committed to non-GMO and sustainable farming practices.

Better than plastics

Lower impact

Produces 75% less CO2 per kilo.

Renewable

Crops are sustainably regrown.

Non toxic

No carcinogens during production.

Engineered for lighting

Polylactic acids (PLAs) are the base ingredients of Gantri Plant Polymers. Traditional PLAs are typically only used for consumables such as disposable cups and straws, and seldom for durables such as furniture and electronics. This is because PLAs are not heat tolerant and do not diffuse light evenly.

To solve these problems, we spent years creating custom compounded PLA blends that retain the sustainable benefits while meeting the needs of premium lighting products. Our translucent blend offers a beautiful, frosted glass-like effect when lit. Our opaque blend - finished with a premium water-based paint, is 50% more temperature resistant than traditional PLAs and safe to use even near electronics. Gantri Plant Polymers are only used in our products.

Beautifully durable

Just being sustainable is not enough. We also want you to enjoy your Gantri product for many years to come. Since we own the entire process - from materials engineering to manufacturing, we're able to obsess over and optimize every detail in each step. This ensures that when you receive your Gantri light, you know that it will last more than a few apartment moves.

  • 01

    Designed for strength

Our polymers offer similar tensile strengths to traditional plastics such as ABS and PET.

  • 02

    Product development

Every new design goes through a long list of QA tests, including scratch and drop tests.

  • 03

    Production QA

Every part is reviewed at least 5 times during the production process to ensure quality.

How it’s made

01

Grinding

Raw crops are ground and transformed into simple sugar.

02

Fermentation

Simple sugar is fermented to produce lactic acid.

03

Polymerization

Lactic acid is dehydrated and converted into raw PLA.

04

Compounding

Additives are mixed into to create our Gantri Plant Polymers.

Our commitments
to you and the world

Plant over synthetics

Wherever we can, we use plant-based materials over artificial counterparts.

Recycle and reuse

Wherever we cannot, we use materials that can be recycled and reused.

Sustainable manufacturing

We produce near you on-demand, minimizing waste and shipping pollution.
